We are proud to be an AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education) course provider, offering AIARE recreational avalanche training in Park City, Utah and beyond. AIARE’s Decision Making in Avalanche Terrain program is delivered in three parts: Avalanche Rescue (1 day), AIARE 1 (3 days), and AIARE 2 (3 days). The entire program consists of seven days of classroom, field, and self-paced online training. With low student-to-instructor ratios, highly qualified and diverse instructors, and terrain to Bonanza Flat from the top of Empire Pass , our AIARE Decision Making in Avalanche Terrain program is a one-of-a-kind experience for anyone who enjoys winter recreation in the backcountry, including beginner backcountry users and aspiring guides and professionals.
AIARE 1
The AIARE 1 course provides a solid foundation on how to prepare, plan and execute a successful backcountry tour. Students will learn about avalanche rescue, trip preparation and planning, terrain identification and route finding. This is the minimum course you need to safely travel in the backcountry.
AIARE 2
This three-day program builds on your established experience and further hones decision-making skills, traveling in more complicated terrain, and developing a travel plan. Completion of an AIARE 1 avalanche course and an Avalanche Rescue course is required before registering for this class.
AIARE Avalanche Rescue
This one-day course is designed to help you stay up-to-date on best practices in rescue technique and equipment. AIARE recommends that all backcountry travelers keep their skills current by taking an Avalanche Rescue course at least every other year. This is a prerequisite for AIARE 2 and AIARE Pro.
Free Avalanche Awareness Lecture
Join us for a free, introductory two-hour avalanche awareness lecture. Far from an AIARE 1 course, this seminar explains the basics of avalanche knowledge and provides a chance for you to learn a bit more about the hazards of traveling in the backcountry and avalanche terrain.
AIARE Professional Avalanche Training
For professional guides, patrollers, and experienced backcountry leaders, the AIARE Professional Avalanche Training Program provides a comprehensive framework for making educated decisions and properly reacting to terrain hazards. Completion of the AIARE 1 and Avalanche rescue courses, or a AAA (American Avalanche Association) recognized Recreational Level 1 and Avalanche Rescue Course is required before registering for the AIARE Professional Avalanche Training Program.
